I use to love writing in this blog, but Summer of 2011 was a very trying time in my life. I saw lots of things happen around me that I wish I could forget and I didn't much want to write any of my feelings and I am actually surprised it didn't take longer than this to put it all down. Events that Summer impacted my life in an indescribable way....I'm not sure where to start.
Several years ago I found out that my cousin Christie had breast cancer. At 30 years old and pregnant.....she had cancer. Although I lived in another town we still talked and I could keep up with her treatments via her care page, and thankfully she beat it and had a healthy baby girl. Later I moved to Lubbock so to be closer to family and 3 months later my Mom called to tell me the news. Christie's cancer had returned.....only this time it was in her bones. I knew what that meant. And to say the least, I was completely devastated. A person with caner like that does not get better. I knew this in my mind....but we were all staying positive and praying hard for a miracle. How could this be happening. We are the same age....separated by 6 months. Our mothers used to dress us alike. We were raised together, and she was my very best friend throughout my childhood, and now I was to look in her eyes knowing that her time on earth was limited. I cant imagine what that is like....knowing your life is ending and there is absolutely nothing you can do about it. And here she was, going on as if nothing was happening. My heart ached....not only for her but even more for her kids. It still does. Yet she stayed positive and prayed hard! I can honestly say I have never met a more godly woman than Christie Devitt and I am pretty sure she had a hotline that went straight to Him. She was not afraid of dieing, because she knew what awaited her when she did.
Not one day goes by where I don't think of her. I have a picture of her that sits on my desk and every time i look at it her smile just brightens up my day. We had just moved back here and I was excited to be closer to her so we could spend time together and reconnect......and now.....she is gone. There are so many details that I am leaving out but I haven't felt much like writing anything...but hopefully my posts will get more frequent. I just wasn't ready to write sine everything i had to write about was so depressing. Cancer seems to be prevalent in my family and I hope to never see another person I love go through it again, but unfortunately my uncle is in his last months of it now. Will it ever end?
Our family has been through lots of changes and I hope to fill everyone in on them soon!!
